Curated Ear Piercing Trends and Stacked Earrings

All about stacked earring and the curated ear piercing trend. Curated Ear Trends Social media is buzzing with this new piercing trend- Stacked earrings, multiple ear piercings or simply a curated ear. A quick Instagram search will produce thousands of results showing the different styles and ideas of this trend. What is a curated ear? A curated ear is one in which the person has multiple small piercings to create an elegant look. These multiple piercings are often planned out and designed by the individual or the professional piercer. The planning and details that go into these looks makes each person so unique and beautiful. There are so many piercing and jewelry options to choose from to curate your unique look. From hoops to dangling, to studs or ear cuffs, something is surely there for you. This form of Ear art is very versatile and allows persons to express themselves and enhance their personal style. This trend is all about you and your personal desires, so it is important that you go with what you like. It is recommended that a person never gets more than 3 piercings at once to allow the body and piercings to heal properly. This will lower the chances of the piercing not healing correctly and causing further issues. However, there are some things you must be mindful of before you get the piercings. Piercing gun vs needle Piercing guns are the most used instrument to do piercings. You can simply go to the mall and get your ear pierced quick and easy. But it may not the best way or safest way to do so. Pros: Affordable- it is cheaper to go to a store in the mall and get your piercing done Convenient- this option is available in many places Quick- you are in an out in a jiffy Cons: Cannot be sterilized- only alcohol or antiseptic pads are used to clean the piercing as it cannot be properly sterilized, nor all parts removed and cleaned. Higher risk of infection- piercing guns use studs that have butterfly backs and can easily trap bacteria. This can lead to the infection of a new piercing. Tissue damage- the piercing gun holds the blunt studs and forces it through the section to be pierced. This can cause tissue damage to the lobe or cartilage. Difficult to aim and angle- piercing guns can be difficult to aim and mistakes are made where the piercing is in an awkward angle. Risk of swelling- the studs used are sometimes made of a low-grade material which can cause an allergic reaction, infection and swelling of the piercing   Piercing needles on the other hand are safer, more accurate and less painful Pros: Single use (sterile)- Each needle is only used once so there is no risk contamination Less painful Accurate- needles are able to be aimed better and can be used to pierce anywhere Less chance of infection- the needle is sharp and pierces through the skin quickly without any tissue damage, so healing is better and less likely to become infected Cons: More expensive Inconvenient- it may be inconvenient to search for a shop that is able to provide needle piercings Ensure you do your additional research and choose an option that works best for you. Which are the best piercings to achieve the curated ear look? A great start to creating your perfect curated ear is to start with a couple lobe piercings as these heal the fastest and hurt the least. Piercings for the inner ear lobe tend to be smaller in size, measuring around 1mm and uses a 18G ring. While the standard lobe piercing may use a 2mm or 12G ring. You may then want to step it up by adding a cartilage piercing or a conch or daith piercing. These piercings hurt more than the lobe piercings, but the results are worth it. They also typically use small 16-18G rings to provide a dainty look. However, this all depends on your preferences and the look you are trying to curate. If you are unsure if you should get the actual piercing or not, ear cuffs are your best bet. These cuffs can be worn to give you an idea of how the ear will look with the actual piercing without you having to do it yet. Cuffs can also be worn to fill the gaps until your other piercings heal and you can get more or if you simply want to change up the style one day. The chart below shows a few different piercing areas on the ear and their names - The most beautiful thing about stacking earrings is that you can add and change the different rings. You can rock studs, huggies, segment rings or hoops in the spaces to give a different aesthetic each time. But the aim is to bring across this aesthetic without the ear looking clustered or jumbled. Some professional piercers can assist in selecting the best colour scheme and the jewellry to use to bring it off. Here are three curated ear ideas for your inspiration: 1. This look was achieved by utilizing the standard and the inner lobes with gold and silver knobs as well as a helix piercing. These small earrings give the curated ear a dainty and elegant look. 2. This look was achieved by utilizing the standard lobe with 4 piercings, two forward helixes and an ear cuff. The small hoop and huggies give the ear an edgy look. 3. This look was curated by using 4 piercings on the standard lobe, followed by a tragus hoop and a helix crawler piercing. The chain attached to the stud gives the feel of a hoop or a dangly earring which amps up the elegant look. Whichever stacked earring style you choose to work with, let it be a reflection of you and your story / personal style. Segment Ring and Clicker Rings Info

Segment Ring vs Clicker All you need to know about Segment Rings A segment ring is the perfect ring if you are seeking a seamless look. These rings can be worn in almost any piercing. They make great hoop nose rings, septum rings, lip rings, earrings, nipple rings, and cartilage jewelry. Segment rings come in two different types: A normal segment ring has a piece that can be completely removed when putting in or taking out the jewelry. It is then twisted or snapped back into place to secure the piercing. A hinged segment ring as the name suggests has a hinge that can be open and closed effortlessly. It is opened and inserted in the piercing then the prong is snapped to close. Segment Ring VS Clicker Ring. Whats The Difference? Segment vs Clicker ring It is quite easy to confuse segment rings with clicker rings, after all, they look very similar. However, there are a few subtle differences. Segment rings usually come in a round hoop shape (with a few exceptions of course. While the clicker ring uses a hinge similar to the hinged segment ring, it has a ‘clicking’ clasp and a half-loop shape. When inserted, there is a click to signify that it is closed and secure. Also, some clicker rings have a thicker gauge hoop with a smaller gauge post, but the segment ring is the same size all around. A clicker ring can be used in various piercings as well but the septum, nipple, daith and cartilage piercings are most common. How To Insert Segment and Hinged Segment Clicker Jewelry To open your normal segment ring, slightly twist the ends in opposite directions but do not pull apart sideways; this will be difficult to pull it back together in its normal position. For the hinged ring, hold the loop in which the segment portion is located with your index finger and thumb while steadying the bottom of the ring with the other hand. Push the segment gently on one side until it pops out. Position the ring inside your piercing by gently inserting one end of the main part of the hoop into the hole and ease the segment back in place by pushing on one end of the segment. Gently twist the other end of the ring to the side while closing it. When the segment of the ring is secured on one end, twist the other end back towards the segment until you are able to push the prong and snap the segment completely in place. This should be simple to do for smaller gauges such as 18G and 14G but larger gauges may require tools to aid with reinserting the segment. Once you are done, go out, rock your piercing and slay! However, when you are shopping for piercing rings, always remember to check the piercing size chart. This is to ensure that you are getting the right size and that you understand the gauging.  This piercing chart shows sizes from 0.88mm in diameter (20g) to 25mm gauges. Please be mindful of this when selecting the size ring you would like to purchase. We offer segment rings ranging in sizes 0G to 18G. So, there is a segment ring available for almost any piercing you have. However, nipple, septum and cartilage piercings generally work best with 14-18G segment rings. Belly, eyebrow and tongue piercings usually require a different type of ring, but preference varies from person to person. Find what works safely for you and have fun. What are the best materials for your piercing? It is very important for you to choose the right materials for your piercings, especially if they are new. Some materials are safe for your piercings while some increase your risk of infection. Metals such as Nickel should be avoided if you have sensitive skin as this is a popular irritant. Here are the 5 best materials for your piercing: Surgical stainless steel- This material is both affordable and hypoallergenic so you and your piercing will be safe and comfortable. Titanium- This material offers you maximum comfort as it is biocompatible so your body will not recognize it as a foreign object and try to reject it. Hence, it is suitable for many piercings. 14K and 18K Karat Gold- The composition of gold jewelry is very crucial when selecting it for your piercings so 14k and 18k are your best bet. They can withstand being exposed to water and not degrade overtime; all while being hypoallergenic as well. Platinum- This metal is unreactive, hypoallergenic and has a glossy shine. It is definitely a good option when selecting your jewelry. Silver- Pure silver is hypoallergenic and durable. However, it is prone to scratching and chipping due to its soft nature. While Sterling silver is 75% pure silver and just as durable but it may contain copper. These must be considered when selecting your piercing ring.   Now that we know the best material for the piercing, let us learn about care and cleaning the piercing… Ensure you research the type of piercing you want before actually getting it so you know how to care it after. When dealing with your piercing, ensure your hands are freshly washed. Clean the area with soap and water or saline solution twice a day to get rid of any bacteria Apply any after care cream you were recommended Avoid touching the piercing unnecessarily Avoid sleeping on the pierced area Check area frequently for any sign of infection   Above all, be healthy and maintain healthy habits to help your piercing heal properly. Beginners Guide - How To Stretch Your Ear Lobes With BodyJ4You Tapers Kit - Ear Stretching Kit

Shop Our Ear Stretching Kit - Use The Code STRETCH for 15% Off Your Gauges Kit Purchase. Before you start stretching your earlobes... The first thing you need to do is determine what size you are currently at for jewelry. A piercer will generally start your ears off at 16g or 14g. However, it depends on your piercer - so please check. If you used a piercing gun then it’s likely your lobes are pierced at 20g or 18g. Clean your newly pierced ear lobes regularly. Be sure to wait 4–6 months for your new piercing to heal before attempting to stretch. To properly stretch your ear lobes, you need to go slowly and one size at a time. Most gauges kits start at 14g and go up to 00g. 14g is the common size to start stretching. If your ears are at a 20g-18g, then start at a 16g taper & plug size. Using a gauges kit is the most cost-effective way to stretch your ears. Here's how to start! STEP 1 Remove any piercing jewelry in your lobe STEP 2 2. Clean your piercing site (we suggest using a saline spray) STEP 3 3. Massage your ear lobes for a few minutes - this helps get your ear ready for the stretch. STEP 4 4. Add lubricant to your ear lobe (we recommend Jojoba Oil or BodyJ4You ear stretching balm) AND your taper. STEP 5 5. Take your taper and thread the small end through your ear piercing. (if this hurts more than a pinch/sting STOP - you do not want to tear your lobes). STEP 6 6. Push the taper almost all the way through STEP 7 7. Take your plug and add lubricant to it. Jojoba oil or ear stretching aftercare balm. STEP 8 8. Push the plug through the larger size of the taper and thread it through your ear lobe as you pull out the taper. STEP 9 9. Make sure to secure the back of the plug with either an o-ring or screw on back. Before Your Next Stretch... Your next stretch should only be done when your ears are fully healed from your last stretch. It's recommended to wait at least 1 month and up to 2 months before stretching again, but the timing will be different for everyone. Keep note of how your ears feel, and always STOP if you experience any bleeding or pain.   Shop Ear Stretching Kits Below

How To Insert Double Flared Saddle Plugs

GUIDE TO INSERTING DOUBLE FLARED SADDLE PLUGS WHAT ARE DOUBLE FLARED PLUGS A double flared plug is a piece of jewelry that has flared edges on both sides. The double flare keeps the jewelry secure from slipping out of your stretched ear lobes. Keep in mind that the flares are larger than the middle part of the plug jewelry. HOW TO INSERT DOUBLE FLARED PLUGS It is important to have some lubricant like Jojoba Oil or an Ear Stretching Balm when inserting or switching out any plugs jewelry. The lubricant will help with insertion, and promote proper healing. Coat the double flared piece of jewelry and lightly lubricate your ear with Jojoba Oil OR an Ear Stretching Balm. The process is then a little like putting a button through a buttonhole. Insert one edge of the flare of the plug through your ear, then gently pull down on the plug and pop the other edge of the flare through the ear. Do not force the plugs and stop right away if trying to insert them causes pain.   Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Shop Double Flared Plugs Sold out Sold out Sold out Sold out

What to Know Before Stretching Your Piercing - BodyJ4you

What to Know Before Stretching Your Piercing

Stretching in body modification is the gradual enlargement of a piercing, usually to fit larger jewelry. Doing so reveals a new spectrum of options for unique adornment. Stretching ear piercings are the most common form. However, nasal, septum, lip, nipple, and genital piercings can also be stretched. How far back does ear stretching go? "Earlobe stretching, like other body modification practices, has been around for thousands of years,” explains Demello, author of the Encyclopedia of Body Adornment, "...but only in the last few years has it become widespread in the united states". She elaborates, "from statues, mummies, and other evidence, we know that stretched ears have been worn in major civilizations around the world, including Egypt, China, and by the Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, and Incans.." "...Tutankhamen, for example, had a stretched ear piercing...In all cases, stretched ears, and the elaborate jewelry worn in them, seem to be associated with elite or royal status and rank. In many cases, we know that the ears were stretched intentionally to wear earplugs, ear spools, and the like. But in other cases, as in China, the ears may have been stretched through the wearing of heavy hanging earrings in regular pierced ears. Today, stretched ears are still worn among some South American and African tribes, and often serves as a rite of passage and a mark of cultural identity for young boys or girls".    How long does it take to stretch a piercing? Stretching takes time and commitment so prepare yourself mentally for the patience that will be needed for the journey! No matter the goal, stretch slowly and very gradually from start to finish. There are various methods to stretch your piercings, but no matter the technique, there are no real shortcuts. Usually, even old piercings that have long been healed won't be able to stretch up to more than one size at a time without causing tissue damage or tearing. Slow stretching is stressed with great importance because the tissue needs a sufficient amount of time in between intervals to heal and “regain its’ suppleness and integrity fully; only then is it safe to go further,” says Angel of The Piercing Bible. If your eagerness gets the better of you and your lobes are stretched in a hurry, you risk overstretching. Angel explains, "overstretching tends to result in a buildup of scar tissue and reduction of flexibility, which can limit your capacity to stretch in the future—or shrink back to normal, if desired.” There is no set timeline. However, Angel gives heed to some advice, "after stretching to a thicker gauge, you generally need to let the tissue recuperate and stabilize for a minimum of several months before attempting to fit in the next one.” As the gauge increments get larger (the size difference escalates), you will need to wait longer to heal until moving onto the next size up. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Body Piercing, Fashion Jewelry (@bodyj4you) on Aug 24, 2020 at 10:34am PDT View this post on Instagram A post shared by Body Piercing, Fashion Jewelry (@bodyj4you) on Oct 15, 2020 at 12:34pm PDT How long should you wait to stretch your ears after piercing? It is best to wait at least double, preferably triple, the initial healing time of your original piercing that you plan to expand before doing so. Talk with your professional piercer for advice on your specific piercing. Does stretching a piercing hurt? The process should be close to painless. There should never be any obvious tearing or bleeding. There can be micro-tears that aren't noticeable and can lead to infection, so it is important to keep up with hygiene.  Can a piercer stretch your ears? It is possible, but not as advisable as the other-self options. The process is done by a professional piercer who makes a piercing with a piercing needle, and then right after the initial piercing, they insert a taper to stretch the piercing to a larger gauge. Excessively stretching this soon can lead to delayed healing. Can I stretch my ears at home? Four different stretching methods can be easily done at home. Combining the methods to cater to your goals is also possible but be sure to look out for any signs of pain or new sensations that may be a tell-tale to scale back to a smaller size. Tapering Most common technique Gradual method Use of a conical metal rod known as a taper pushed through the hole until its widest part is even with the skin. Larger tapers and then jewelry will be substituted over time as the hole gets bigger.   Taping Use of Teflon tape (a thin tape found in hardware stores commonly used to seal off pipe threads) Gradual method A piece of tape is wrapped around the existing jewelry, forming a slightly larger diameter More tape is applied gradually till the goal is reached   Dead stretching Simply stretching the hole in the skin until it is large enough to accommodate the desired jewelry It can result in tearing/ pain if not careful   Weight Common in past traditional societies Stretched by the hanging of weights onto the jewelry Multiple rings can be added onto a hoop for weight as well as creativity It can result in tissue tearing and thinning if not careful When can I wear silicone tunnels after stretching? It is safe to wear other materials like acrylic, silicone, and organics once your piercing and stretched lobe are completely healed.  Materials such as surgical steel, titanium, niobium, gold, platinum, and biocompatible polymers are good for the initial stretch. These materials are said to lower the cause of irritation, allergy, or infections. Types of Ear Lobe Cartilage Piercings, Sizes & How to Curate Them - Curated - BodyJ4you

Types of Ear Lobe Cartilage Piercings, Sizes & How to Curate Them - Curated

This year has been a year of learning how to collect unexpected chaos moments and transform them into something meaningful. As we have all had to take a step back from each other, we have focused more on ourselves and our own well-beings. This has lead to the beautiful emergence of the rise of individuality within our society. Like the chaos we have transformed this year, some of us have also done so with piercings clusters. With an amount that may seem overwhelming, chaotic even, ear jewelry clusters have been arranged in such a visually appealing way that it becomes a curated work of art.  What Are Curated Ear Piercings? One of the biggest piercing trends this year has been stacked ear jewelry. One can easily find photos of "ear curations" or ear jewelry collections all over social media, usually consisting of tasteful combinations of a delicious array of jewelry styles and ear piercings. Pairing studs with rings, bars, and dangling ear jewelry can make for an interestingly layered composition.  There are many different types of ear piercings, and each with its own name. We will go over the different types, what they are, and inspiration for your own ear curation.  Earlobe- The most common ear piercing, in the lobule, the most fleshy part in the ear lobe, usually pierced right in the center. Quick healing time, 4-8 weeks. Ring-style or bar-style jewelry can be used for initial piercing. Can use a wide array of jewelry. Standard lobe piercing size is usually 20g - 18g, although some piercing professionals will do 16g - 14g.  Knowing the size of your piercing is important as this will help you determine which size jewelry you can purchase for your lobes. Shop ear lobe jewelry here  - https://www.bodyj4you.com/collections/earrings Upper Lobe- placed just above the standard lobe piercing. This type of piercing is usually placed to the side of the center of the ear lobe toward the outer edge of the ear.  Quick healing time, 4-8 weeks. Ring-style or bar-style jewelry can be used for initial piercing. Standard lobe piercing size is usually 20g - 18g, although some piercing professionals will do 16g - 14g.  Shop ear lobe jewelry here  - https://www.bodyj4you.com/collections/earrings Ear Cartilage Piercings-  Helix- this piercing placed by the curved outer rim of the ear. Ring style jewelry is best for initial piercing. Or Scapha- placed on the flatter portion of the cartilage where the helix curves, the right end of the industrial bar on the chart. Studs or ring style jewelry for initial piercing. Longer healing time, 3-9 months or longer.  Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. "Floating" Cartilage or Flat-  Placed in the “flat” towards the center away from the edge. Studs or a ring large enough to envelop the helix (the outer rim of your ear) for initial piercing jewelry. Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. Tragus- Placed above the earlobe, on the cartilage that connects to the face. 3-9 months or longer to heal. Small barbell for initial piercing jewelry. Important to pick jewelry that fits well, not too small or large, so that the tragus piercing does not get caught on the anti-tragus cartilage. Large jewelry can look and feel awkward in this piercing. Small dainty jewelry really complements the position. Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. Antitragus- Placed in the rise of the cartilage above the earlobe. Ring, curved bar, mini barbell, barbell jewelry for initial piercing. Bar style jewelry may be more comfortable. 3-9 months to heal.  Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. Surface Tragus- Placed more toward the face from the tragus. Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. Conch- Placed down in the deep central bowl-shaped section of the ear. Heals in 3-9 months or longer (commonly 6 months). Start initially with a barbell to heal better since a ring is subject to excess trauma. After healing, ring style or stud jewelry can be used. Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g. Rook- In the cartilage near the face on the upper part of the ear. Heals in 3-9 months or longer (commonly 6 months). Ring or curved bar to start. Jewelry can be placed in the center of the ridge or closer to the face. To consider: if you have a phone or headphones up against your ears a lot, this may not be the piercing for you due to the discomfort you will feel from the pressure on the piercing. Piercing size 18g and 16g with the most common being 16g.  Daith- Right beneath the Rook piercing and above the tragus cartilage toward the inner shell of the ear. 3-9 months or longer to heal. Ring or curved bar to start with for initial piercing jewelry. An attractive piercing that frames the tissue.  Most common daith piercing size is 16g  Ear head or Forward Helix- Placed on the upper part of the ear (helix) that connects to the head. 3-9 months or longer to heal. Ring, barbell, or mini barbell for initial piercing jewelry. If you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses, show your piercer where they lay on your ears so that the piercing can be placed appropriately for comfort. Piercing size 16g and 14g with the most common being 16g.
